Racial Unawareness

I’d like to take this opportunity to do something a little different. I know you’re all used to reading my goofy posts about whatever. And you know what? I think I’ve had enough of my inane writing. It’s time to get serious. This being “Black History Month” I have really become more aware of those around me. I’m starting to see that we all can get along. So I’ve written this poem because I find that’s the best way to express myself.

Inspired by my all time #1 favorite song, “If Everyone Cared” by “Nickelback”

Racial Unawareness

By Daryl Elliott

This is what I want…

Each morning we greet each other with “Hello” No matter black, white, red or Asian A planet full of love and grace If only we stopped seeing race

If we stopped judging those different No longer would we have to pay rent If we could just accept the smile on a face™ If only we stopped seeing race

No more whines, not the sound of a fuss If we could just put our differences behind us We could destroy all of our guns, nukes and mace If only we stopped seeing race

We could all play bagpipes, sackbuts and cellos Our world a field of strawberries and marshmallows Oh how delicious that would taste If only we stopped seeing race

No more heart attacks, no more liver transplants Let’s all join hands on the rainbow of tolerance We could all afford to live in space If only we stopped seeing race

No more race, oh how great that sounds The rainbow of tolerance knows no bounds We could be whatever we wished, at whatever pace If only we stopped seeing race

If you stand in our way you will be destroyed The greatest weapon will be employed We will stalk and chase This is something you can avoid If only you stop seeing race
